Hello.
I am French and I am writing an academic paper.
In this kind of passage,
Stigler constructed a study of economic agents which was much more realistic than the very simplified and abstract models found in neoclassical economic theories. Stigler's construction took form on his study of bounded rationality in decision making, a study where he showed that it is possible to verify in actual fact / in effect that the ability of economic agents to process and calculate information has a limit.
I am almost sure that "verify empirically" would be correct here, but what about "in actual fact" or "in effect"?

Thank you for your answers.

Yes, or you can use "empirically verified".

I'm sure you meant to say empirically verify, teechar.

My judgement is that both in actual fact and in effect are misplaced and indeed unnecessary. What do you mean to say by using those phrases?

As teechar points out, took form on is not right. I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Also, constucted/construction are probably not the right words.

What is wrong with the word "verify" all by itself?

The bolded section is extraneous.

Thank you very much.

By "constructed a study of" I meant "constructed an analysis of".
As regards "took form", I meant that Stigler's construction "has been developed". Maybe this latter term is clearer?

I would like to add that the verification is empirical because, in a previous passage, I insist on the distinction between theoretical and empirical researches.

Okay, say that then.

As regards "took form", I meant that Stigler's construction "has been developed". Maybe this latter term is clearer?

The main problem was the use of the preposition on. was developed from is better.

I would like to add that the verification is empirical because, in a previous passage, I insist on the distinction between theoretical and empirical researches.

Yes, it's important that you include that.

See above. The French verb insister can't always translate as "insist on".

I also don't like the use of "research" as a countable noun. If necessary, use "research studies/projects".

I have a theory about in actual fact. Those who use that phrase do it to annoy those of us who dislike it.

Thank you for your answers.
