[General] two connotations of "approval"

Would you share with me your opinion concerning the following sentences?

He gave his approval to our plan.

I met approval in her look.

Mankind had stamped its approval upon certain actions.

approval = approbation, commendation

We must submit our plans for approval.

We received their approval to continue the research.

I hope this plan has your approval.

The plan was submitted for approval.

He gave his approval to our plan.

approval = sanction

I met approval in her look.
A look doesn't seem concrete enough for me to use the verb meet.
