[Grammar] Usage of 'from behind'

I think I heard somebody call out my name from behind.

Can someone please tell me if the above sentence sounds natural?

It sounds incomplete. From behind what?

...from behind me.
...from behind the car.
...from behind the curtain.
...from behind the door.

It sounds OK-ish to me; I'd just assume it meant behind the speaker.
