"The newspaper had been out of print since 1931. It was not until the 1940s that someone remembered it and resumed its publication."

Is it OK to use the word 'remember' here?

Are you asking if you have chosen the correct verb for the context, or are you asking if you can remove "remembered" and replace it with "remember"?
 
If it's the correct word for the context. Would 'recall' work?

If you say they remembered it that means it came to mind. However, you mean something else entirely.
 
That's the thing. In the paper I'm translating, they use the verb "vspomnit' ('o') ('o' is ''about'). It means 'remember'. I've already come up with a workaround. Thank you.

Let's try this one here:
"You have ignored me for God knows how long. All of a sudden you remember me when you need help?!"

Is the word 'remember' used correctly here?
