use of gerund after comma

Dear teachers,

Are these grammatically correct?

Education leads people to a brighter future, allowing them to change other people's lives.
Too much money can lead one to ruin, revealing the true self behind them.

The first is fine, but the second doesn't work.

Incidentally, those -ing forms are functioning as participles, not gerunds.
