I was asked a question and new the right answer but had a problem explaining.

The incorrect statement was 'is term as an acid' I corrected as 'is termed as an acid'

But, what part of speech is 'is termed as' ?

Maybe you mean to say it (whatever it is) is an acid. (I have no idea what "termed as an acid" means.)

I don't think 'acid' is properly considered a term. Perhaps your student means 'is classed as'.
