I think we all know the abbreviation vs.
My question:
Should we write vs or vs. or even v.s.?
USA vs England.
USA vs. England.
USA v.s. England

It's mostly used in sports.

Your example is probably a result of being practical not being correct. I guess a little help from our teachers would be nice on this matter.

The usual jouralistic practice over here is to write

England v Spain (not v. vs. vs or the completely indefensible v.s.)

Countries which formally begin with The have the definite article dropped in sporting fixtures, so a match would be shown as USA v USSR.
