What does "keep it on the early side" mean?

It was used in business context where a salesman wanted some changes in his schedule.

It was used in a business context where a salesman wanted some changes [STRIKE]in[/STRIKE] to his schedule.

Are you sure that's exactly what it said? Was that the whole sentence? If so, it should have said "Keep it on the early side".

If that's what it said, then he meant "Please make sure that any changes result in the schedule having my meetings (or whatever he was talking about) in the early part of the day".
