What does 'laking' mean in this sentence, please?

Would anyone please tell me waht 'laking' means in this sentence?

'...respectable proponents of opposing viewpoint were not laking.'

Dear 5jj, this is from a text on 'law'. So, as you mentioned, the only possibility could be a misspelling? I'm so sorry to bother you with such a question then! :-(

It must be a typo. 'laking' does not exist, and 'lacking' makes sense.

"I rest my case", as a lawyer might say
