mom calls out to her son "Harry! Wake up! You'll be late for school."

The son replies, "Mom I don't want to go to school! The teachers and students hate me! Give me one reason I should go!"

The mom says back, "You should go because you're the principal!"

Hi there,

Could you tell me what "principal" means in above context I quoted? It is a joke, but I don't understand why it is funny.

Many thanks!:B-fly:

Most people spend the whole of the start of that joke assuming that Harry is a small child who is complaining that he doesn't want to go to school. The punchline is that he isn't a child at all, he is the "principal" (the headmaster) of the school.

The "Principal" is the head of the school. That is why it is funny.
