Verb plus gerund and infinitive pelmanism and snap

Verb plus gerund and infinitive pelmanism

Spread the cards face down across the table. Take two cards. If both of those cards are followed by verb with -ing (e.g. “finish + doing” and “recommend + going”) or are both followed by to + infinitive (e.g. “hope + to do” with “want + to go”), you can keep both cards and score two points. If they don’t match, put them back face down in the places where they came from. Words which can be followed by both gerund and infinitive (“start + doing” or “start + to do”, etc) can match with every other card.

Verb plus gerund and infinitive snap

Deal out the cards but don’t look at any of them, just leave them in a pile face down in front of you. Without looking at your cards first, take turns turning over one card and putting it face up on the table. If the last two cards match by the form of the verb that comes after, race to shout “Snap”. If you are right (for example the two most recent cards were “afford” and “arrange”, which are both followed by “to do”), you can put all of the cards which are face up on the table into your pack. However, if you shout “Snap” when the two most recent cards don’t match, you can’t take the cards and you have to give two cards from your pack to each other player as punishment. If there are any cards which can take plus to + verb and verb with -ing, they match every other card.
