The query might look a little vague, but can someone please explain when to use "Although....yet" and when to skip "yet"?

Eg. Although he is a great student, he's never been a teacher's favorite.

Can they be used interchangeably or am I missing something?

Use 'although' in the first part or 'yet' in the second. Not both.

'Although he works hard, he doesn't earn much'.

'He works hard(,) yet he doesn't earn much.' (The comma is optional. I'd leave it out.)

Special thanks for the "comma" part. It has always been an issue.
