Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

Oh well, that’s his pigeon. I’m not in the picture.

pigeon = girl-friend

be in the picture = take part, participate, be present (at)

Thanks for your efforts.

Regard,

V

I'm not a teacher, but doesn't "to be in the picture" mean "to have fresh information, to know the latest" ?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi calypsovoice,

Sorry, I'm not a great authority in this field. I afford an opportunity for answer to the genuine experts in the true sense of the word. Here a plenty of them.

Hi calypsovoice,

You are right with your speculation.

Here is an example:

"Lewis had better hear this" said Rubin. "It'll be all over town in an hour or so, anyway," said the diplomat. "What is it?" "I don't know whether you're in the picture already," he replied, "but your people and the French are going into Suez."

be in the picture = I am acquainted /familiar with the question. This meaning spring up from the phrase "put somebody in the picture"

Regards,

V.
