Good day!

I am currently preparing for CAE level exam and I have encountered these 2 extracts, whose correct answers I cannot find. I would be really happy if one of you could enlighten me with the solutions .

THINK OF ONE WORD ONLY , which can be used appropriately in all three sentences.

A. 1. If I don't get back by the time you leave, ......................... the key through the letterbox after you've locked the door.
2. If you join the diplomatic service they could ....................... you to more or less any country in the world.
3. The boy's uncle hammered a ........................ into the ground and fixed a basketball net to the top.

B. 1. Good hygiene practice can do a great deal to .......................... the spread of infection.
2. Can you have a look in the paper and ............................ what time the film starts tonight?
3. The boys were both wearing red and blue ....................... shirts.

I would be so glad if someone could help me with these...

For A, think about what you do when you put a piece of paper through a letterbox or into a public mailbox. There is a verb for that. Here's a hint: In American English, someone would say "I will mail that letter later". In British English, we would say "I will ______ that letter later". The word that goes in that space is the answer to A.

Welcome to the forum, Laura.:-D

You really need to make your own effort first. In view of the excellent standard of English you displayed in your preamble, I'm sure you have some idea of what goes into those spaces.

Have you translated them into Romanian first?

We are not simply going to give you the answers, and since you can see how much space ems needed to give you a clue for just one of those examples, please limit your threads to one sentence each.

Thank you very much for the kind support! I thought it could have been "post", but then I assumed I might get it wrong. Now, I hope I figured A out.

I remain with B. Everything that came up to my mind (hault/ stop/ reduce/ check etc), fitted only one or 2 of the phrases...but not all three.

*I will take into consideration the aspects related to the numer of q. adressed in one post. I thought it would have been more efficient to adress the topic fully from the beginning.

Thank you for the kind advice!
Yes, I did. I translated them into Roumanian (even though I don't usually operate like that, given the fact that it may alter the meaning). I thought I had some clues, but then I realised they don't fit all three at the same time. I usually get this part right, but I don't know what happened this time. I've "flicked" all internet pages in search of a proper context to see the use, but nothing was relevant enough... :(

Do you really use that verb for the act of putting something in someone's letterbox? It wouldn't work at all in AmE. "To mail" means "to deposit into the postal system for delivery somewhere else", not "to place in a mailbox".
