Hello.

Can I use "concrete ocean" to describe a big city?

What do you think about this sentence?

I went to the balcony and looked out the city, a vast expanse of concrete ocean stretched into infinity.

We usually describe a densely built-up city as a concrete jungle.

Sure. If you like the imagery, go ahead. It's original.

I don't think sea works well because it is flat and featureless.

True. But I think it depends on what Al is getting at. We don't know the context.

Fly over Los Angeles sometime. Then take a ferry across the Bay of Fundy in a storm. Then tell us which one is flat and featureless.
