This is an entry from my diary. Please check it and correct any mistakes.

Tonight, my mum and I are going to a Shanghai restaurant. It's been a year since we last had Shanghai food. I miss it very much because the food reminds me of the days I lived with my grandparents in summer when I was a child. They would prepare a lot of traditional cuisine and snack for me. I can't eat them anymore. Therefore, every time I visit that restaurant, I always feel nostalgia for my childhood in Shanghai.

I would say "in the summer" and "snacks" there.

They would prepare a lot of traditional cuisine
According to Oxford, "cuisine" means "a style of cooking".
So, do you mean to say "prepare a lot of traditional styles of cooking"?

Traditional Shanghainese food. Can’t ‘cuisine’ mean ‘food’?

No. It is “prepare a lot of traditional Shanghainese styles of food”.

Doesn’t “cuisine” also mean “food”?

No. I ate the food at home. Collins dictionary says household is also OK.

The same dictionary also gives this definition:

the food served in a restaurant (usually an expensive one)
  • The hotel restaurant is noted for its excellent cuisine.
  • We sampled the local cuisine.

The OP ate the food at home rather than in a restaurant according to post #9.

OK. You may stick to the definition in Collins.
I would stick to the definition in Oxford, though.
Longman provides a similar definition. See below:
the food cooked in a particular restaurant or hotel, especially when it is very good

Source:

I would not use "cuisine" if the food is cooked at home.

I not infrequently refer to my wife's cuisine.

"I not infrequently refer to my wife's cuisine" is a rather common expression (especially the "not infrequently" part). It's less often than "frequently" but still fairly often.
