1)We were there the whole of Monday.
2)We were there for the whole of Monday.
Are both sentences of mine correct?

1) space here We were there the whole of Monday.
2) space here We were there for the whole of Monday.
Are both sentences of mine correct?
Remember to always put a space after a closing bracket.

Both sentences are possible, with the same meaning. I'd use #2. I think #1 is more common in AmE.

I can't say they're wrong, but they both sound odd to my AmE ear. In fact, so odd that I can't really pick between the two as they sound equally off.

I'd expect to hear (and would say) one of the following:
We were there all of Monday.
We were there all day Monday.
We were there the whole day Monday.

If forced to pick one of the originals against my will, I'd reluctantly use #1.
