It's a shortened form of "I'm a funny guy, I know". He's acknowledging that what he said directly before it was amusing (that's a matter of opinion).

I think (hope) he's using the phrase sarcastically, or as a bit of self deprecating humor. I sure didn't find it at all humorous. I'm not even completely sure what he's suggesting is the funny bit.

I think the joke is that he says 'a' means 'one', and since one is a number, that's why he wrote a/number on the board. His shrug and comment show that he knows it's a poor joke.
