I was reading something about wolves in Great Britain and this is what I have found in an article on Wikipedia:
"The wolf is generally thought to have become extinct in England during the reign of Henry VII (AD 1485–1509), or at least very rare." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolves_in_Great_Britain
Unless I am not understanding something the sentence in quotes in wrong because present perfect cannot be used when you specify the exact time in the past when the extinction of wolves happened.
Am I correct or am I missing something?
The reason I am asking is because "the wolf is generally thought to became extinct" does not sound as good to me as the original sentence, although I am not sure why.
