Please, help me with the meaning of the following sentence:

Despite his height of six foot two, he fell short of filling the space his physical body took up.

Thanks.

It means that his lack of "presence", his reticent personality, made him appear smaller than his actual physical size.
 
I guess it could be understood even you think about it in your native language if he was depicted more. I mean something like this;

He is six foot ten, and a muscly man yet he's the first one to flee when he comes across even a slightest risk of danger.

I don't think that a man who is six foot two(~1,85) looks scary enough just because of his height. This is why in my example it is six foot ten.

P.S.:Elephant-mouse stories would be very depictive for your question.
