Can you tell me if the following sentences are grammatical?

1) I was told that I am good in this job by my manager.
2) The most sad thing for me was I was told that I am a stolid person.

I would say:

1) I was told by my manager that I am good at my job.
2) The saddest thing for me was being told that I am a stolid person.

Thanks for your answer emsr2d2.I have two questions. Can you please explain the difference between 'I was told' and 'being told'? and Are 'I was told' and 'being told' passive?

They're passive. Being told here has a meaning similar to when I was told.
