As soon as you saw each other = at first sight
what about
manage to see =
I .......... him hiding behind the tree.

Could no longer see =
WE were following her but she disappeared in the crowd and we ............. her.

Recognize his face =
I know him ........... but I've never spoken to him.

Disappeared from =
she watched the plane take off and fry away until it went ........

manage to see = catch sight of
could no longer see = lose sight of something
recognize his face = know someone slightly
disappeared from = pass out of sight

Probably you take an interest in respect to take a first-hand look at some common collocations of “sight”

Here are a few of them:

To catch sight of, to keep sight of
I faint at the sight of blood.
I fall in love at first sight.
I know him by sight.
The ship was no longer in sight.
I shoot looters on sight.

I caught sight of him hiding behind the tree.

Could no longer see =
WE were following her but she disappeared in the crowd and we lost sight of her. In English you could also just say "we lost her" as well.

Recognize his face =
I know him by sight, but I've never spoken to him.

Disappeared from =
she watched the plane take off and fry away until it went out of sight.
