[General] Is “similar” necessary here?

I hope someone someday falls for me the way Wenger has fallen for Diaby. Or, I hope someone someday falls for me similarly to the way Wenger has fallen for Diaby.
Please elaborate.

Your first sentence is fine. Inserting 'similarly to' would necessitate other changes, making the sentence over-long and cumbersome.
