Dear Friends,

What is the meaning of "leaving it late in:

“I’m famous for always leaving it late, not only in races but also in the run-up to the last world championships."

That was said by a snowboarder.

Many thanks.

In snowboarding, 'leaving it late' refers to leaving a kicker late:

kicker (n.)
To go up into the air off a ski jump on a snowboard and land. Context: Snowboarders use the word when they or someone else has just landed a jump that took them into the air.

Can you please, explain that more? Like He always "jumps" late "or "lands" late.

I'm so grateful really, but can you rephrase that for me?

Thanks.

A kicker is a thing, and it is made of snow. You launch your snowboard or kick off from a kicker, a mound of snow. To launch late or leave late or kick off late means the front of your snowboard is over the edge of the mound quite a bit before you launch/leave/kick off. To kick off early is the opposite: a small portion of the front of your snowboard is over the edge (of the mound).

There is something missing that makes me not able to understand.
He talks about a feet injury after that, I dont' know if it's the result of "being it late"!! I still can't get "the front of your snowboard is over the edge of the mound quite a bit before you " I can't imagine that!!
Sorry!:-(

The injury, which was sorted out here - TURNS , is not relevant to the question in this thread.
