Hi teachers,

I'd like to ask if my sentences are correct and If I can use near as a verb here.

1. I remember our company’s Christmas tree competition for the departments when Christmas is nearing. And, this(photo) was our office Christmas tree that won 1st price last year.

2. When Christmas was nearing every year, I remember we had our hands full decorating our office Christmas tree.

3. I was neared 38 when I resigned at my last job.

Thanks so much

You can use near as a verb, though it tends to be rather formal. Your sentences, with my minor corrections are fine.

Thanks for the corrections

If we can use it in written/formal English, can we also use it when speaking?

Yes, but I feel that you won't encounter it very often in informal conversation.
