This is not the whole essay. I wanted to make sure the parts in bold sound idiomatic. Can I use them or should they be rephrased?

Humans use the resources of the earth to fulfill their needs, often without realising how much it affects the planet. In this essay I will present some of the ways humans harm the Earth. The most widespread way of harming the earth is pollution. Litter is one of the main contributors to pollution. Litter comes from a variety of sources, such as household garbage or industrial waste. It can also be found in landfills. This litter is collected in landfills. These landfills pose a danger for the wildlife and vegetation. Animals often mistake it for food. It can also interrupt their essential behaviors, such as breathing or digesting food. Wildfires also pose a threat. Wildfires can be caused by a human made spark. If nothing is done now our planet will be harmed in an unfixable way.

See above. You need to work on getting rid of a lot of repetition.

Could you tell me why is it wrong to use "the resources of the Earth" instead of "the Earth's resources?" I used it because I wasn't talking about people.

It's less wordy.
I used it because I wasn't talking about people.
I don't understand your point. Are you saying that you think that the possessive apostrophe + s can only be used when talking about something that belongs to a person?

Yes, that's what grammar books say.

Sorry, but that's nonsense!

The cat's whiskers are long.
My dog's legs are bald.
Our moon's diameter is 3,474.8km
That flower's petals are bright purple.

It is mentioned in every book. This is from Raymond Murphy's English Grammar in Use.

Note that the opening sentence in the first link says "normally". Also, it clearly states that it can be used with animals, thus disproving your point that it can only be used for people.
Bear in mind that grammar books prepare you for exams, not real life.
As far as the examples such as "the door of the garage" goes, I agree that the possessive apostrophe + s wouldn't be used. However, note that, in BrE at least, a native speaker would say "the garage door", not "the door of the garage".
