Hello there!

I can't quite decide which tense to use in the sentence below. I'm inclined to use the subjunctive, but my non-native teacher told me it's incorrect.

A geosynchronous satellite doesn't necessarily need to rotate around the equator, the only requirement is that its orbital period match/matches Earth's rotation period.

I can't quite decide which [STRIKE]tense[/STRIKE] mood to use in the sentence below. I'm inclined to use the subjunctive, but my non-native teacher told me it's incorrect.

The subjunctive is correct, but most speakers of BrE would use the indicative.

British English.

AmE means American English.

Isn't that a run-on sentence?

I think your right. I need to replace the comma with a semicolon, right?

Although the subjunctive is still used in AmE, it's not necessary. In other words, both match and matches are correct and identical in meaning.
