Please, check if the following passage is grammatically correct. Thanks!

The young people in the streets, who led the demonstrations against the president, quickly realized that their achievements were very limited. After all, not just the president's ouster did they seek, but also a fundamental change in the government's form. These young people soon realized that the army was reluctant to encounter them and if they continued to maintain the momentum of the revolution and the demonstrations in the streets, the army would surrender and accept, one by one, all their demands.

I'd change encounter to something like confront. I also find the word order of the second sentence a bit artificial and would probably say They didn't just seek to oust the president...
