[Grammar] to show my support to/for the players

I think 'for' is correct. Is it?

I attended all the matches to show my support for the players.

It's OK. Of​ would work, too.
 
I would use "for" in that sentence.

Are there any examples in which using 'to' is more appropriate? That is, 'show my support TO .....'

"Need to show support to" implies that you need to prove/overtly display your support.
