Hi guys,

Can we say "I was wishing or hoping that he would be all right"?

I was hoping.

So "Wish" can't be used like this. Can we say "I wished"?

You wish for something that is not likely to happen.
I wish I'd meet a rich man who would leave me his entire fortune.

You also wish for people to act differently.
I wish he would stop interrupting people.

You hope for things that are possible or likely.
I hope the Patriots make it to the Super Bowl and win.
(A fan of a team with no change of winning would say "I wish my team would make it to the Super Bowl.")

So "Wished" can be used for past. Right? Like "On that day I wished that he would call or he was with me".

I'd say 'On that day I hoped that he would call' and 'On that day I wished he was with me'.
