This is a sentence in a newspaper:
Reading some of the news out of Mongolia lately it would be easy to conclude that the country is on the verge of becoming yet another failed post-socialist experiment in democracy.
1) Can I use "will" instead of "would" in above sentence?
Could you tell me the reason for "would" to be used in the sentence?
2) What does "yet" mean in this sentence?
Is it mean "
still possible in the future"?
Thanks.

Reading some of the news out of Mongolia lately it would be easy to conclude that the country is on the verge of becoming yet another failed post-socialist experiment in democracy.
1) Can I use "will" instead of "would" in above sentence? No. "will" indicates a certainty. The writer used "would" here since it is a possibility, not something that is sure to happen.
Could you tell me the reason for "would" to be used in the sentence?
2) What does "yet" mean in this sentence? Understand "yet" here to mean another one. For example, you could (note that "could" here means possible) write, "He has driven 50 miles and has 50 yet to travel."
[STRIKE] Is [/STRIKE] Does it mean "still possible in the future"?
Thanks.

Gil

 (The 'yet' has no temporal value at all; it reinforces 'another' - suggesting that there have been several others before. Example: 'I missed the bus yet again this morning. I did the same yesterday and the day before. I'm always doing it.')

Thank you very much! :)
The writer used "would" here since it is a possibility, not something that is sure to happen.
Does this mean that we can use "would" to express possibility?
Isn't "would" here past tense of "will"?
