Please would you correct my sentence? I am not sure if the second part of the sentence is non-restrictive or restrictive.

1.The doctors promissed him an operaton that was never carried out.
or maybe it should be:
2.The doctors promissed him an operation, which was never carried out.

I'd use the non-restrictive version.
I think it's 'promis...' ;-)

I really hate to say this to a good English writer like you, but I thought you might probably have meant 'promised', not 'promissed'.
